PROJECT OVERVIEW
The Sawtooth Bridges Replacement is a major Gateway Program initiative aimed at eliminating one of the most congested points along the Northeast Corridor. Situated in Kearny, New Jersey, the project lies between the planned Harrison 4th Track to the north and the actively constructed Portal North Bridge to the south. Built in 1907, the existing bridges now carry over 400 Amtrak and NJ Transit trains daily, while also accommodating PATH and Conrail freight traffic.
The replacement program will deliver three new bridge structures along a 1.9-mile corridor between Newark Penn Station and Secaucus Junction. Designed to increase capacity, improve reliability, and support future high-speed rail, the new bridges will provide a more resilient and efficient link for one of the busiest rail corridors in the country.
As part of the project team, IVY Engineering Group is providing construction management support, including contractor oversight, quality assurance, schedule monitoring, and progress documentation to help ensure the successful delivery of this critical infrastructure upgrade.
